Week of 11/2 to 11/6

Music 7:
M- Discuss the Brass family of the orchestra
T- Discuss the Percussion family of the orchestra
W- Assign seats, discuss rules and expectations, grading policy, notebook policy and class participation.
Th- Student introductions and interests. Discuss their musical backgrounds.
F- Listening and discussion of some of the earliest types of music.

Chorus:
M through F- Work on warm-ups, individual and group singing skills. Use of proper breathing, support, posture and diction. Chorus rehearsal during the after school activity period Monday and Wednesday!

Elementary Lessons:
M through F- Work on assigned lesson material and the band music for the concert. Remember to practice at least 15 minutes EVERY DAY!

PMEA District 10 Chorus

Congratulations to Ryan Kovach for being selected to participate in the PMEA District 10 Chorus Festival this school year! Ryan ranked 16th out of 58 auditioners on the Tenor 2 voice part. The festival will take place at Nazareth Area High School from January 28th through the 30th in 2010. Ryan will participate with singers from over a seven county area.

Week of 10/26 to 10/30

Music 7:
M- Video introducing the Symphony Orchestra and Classical Period.
T- Finish video.
W- Discussion of the string and woodwind families.
Th- Discussion of the brass and percussion families.
F- Listening and discussion of entire symphony orchestra.

Chorus:
M-F- Work on warm-ups, individual and group work on tone, intonation, blending and dynamics on holiday music.

Elementary Lessons:
M-F- Work on assigned lesson materials and concert music. REMEMBER TO PRACTICE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES EVERY DAY!

Week of 10/19/09 to 10/23/09

MUSIC 7:
M- Video and discussion on J.S. Bach
T- Finish video and review for test on Bach. Remember to study tonight for the test on Bach.
W- Test on Bach
TH- Composer's Bow Tie Reading Across the Curriculum worksheet.
F- Listening to Music of Franz Joseph Haydn and intro to Classical style of music.

CHORUS:
M through F- Work on warming up properly. Work on individual and group singing skills. Use proper breathing, support, posture and diction. The bus will leave N.S. for District Chorus auditions at 5:00 p.m. from the lower lot. Please be prepared to audition the solo and sight reading. GOOD LUCK!

Th- Start to read and discuss Johann Sebastian Bach
F- Listening to Music of Bach. Discuss his contributions to Church music and organ music.

CHORUS:
W, Th,F- Warm-ups, work on Holiday concert music parts. Work on diction, breathing and support.

ELEMENTARY LESSONS:
W,Th,F- Work on assigned materials from lesson books and concert music. Practice at least 15 minutes EVERY DAY!
